What we stand for

Built by the workforce, run for the workforce

As a Versicherungsverein auf Gegenseitigkeit — a mutual insurance association under German insurance supervision law — the fund exists solely to serve its members, not external shareholders.

Solidarity

Founded in 1949 by the Saarstahl workforce, the fund carries forward a tradition of colleagues supporting one another's families through loss.

Low overhead

The association has no field sales force, which keeps administrative costs low so more of every contribution can go toward member benefits.

Scale and stability

With more than 18,000 members, the fund is one of the larger Sterbekassen in Germany, rooted entirely in the Völklingen and Burbach works community.

Why a Sterbegeld matters

A death benefit exists to ease a difficult moment

When someone passes away, their family faces immediate costs — a funeral, travel for relatives, outstanding matters to settle — often before an estate can be resolved. A Sterbegeld, or death benefit, is designed to reach the family quickly, so that grief is not compounded by financial pressure.

This page describes the general purpose of death-benefit cover in plain terms. It is not a description of any specific policy, and contribution levels, eligibility, and payout amounts should always be confirmed directly with our office.
